Laser Pigmentation Removal
Laser pigmentation removal or laser pigmented lesion removal treatment is one of the most frequently asked procedures in our clinic. Thanks to the innovative laser technology at Prima Britannia, we can treat the most common hyperpigmentation conditions without pain quickly and efficiently.
Hyperpigmentation – or hyperpigmentation disorders – is caused by the overproduction of melanin by the pigmented cells, called melanocytes. It is a very common skin condition that can affect all skin types, genders and ages.
However, this is not a health-threatening skin condition, but it can be very frustrating, especially if the affected area is on the face.
These are small, superficial patches of darker pigmentation presented on exposed body parts – most commonly on the Hands, Face and Décolletage.
To choose the right treatment for skin pigmentation, it is essential to determine the type of pigmented spots.
The most common and recognised Hyperpigmentation disorders:
- Solar lentigines – usually referred to as age spots or liver spots
- Freckles – are small brown spots on the skin in areas that get sun exposure. They are genetic.
- Sun Damages –are harmless spots of light to dark brown colour. They occur after repeated or chronic sun exposure.
- Post-inflammatory Hyperpigmentation- a change in skin colour that follows an inflammatory wound. It usually appears after acne, skin burns, or other skin injuries.
- Melasma –or Chloasma, is a symmetrical hyperpigmented lesion on the sun-exposed skin with an irregular border. It is usually associated with hormonal changes.
What are the causes of Hyperpigmentation?
60% – the most common cause is excess sun radiation or other sources such as solaria, sunbeds, and sun lamps.
25 % – Are hormonal problems and post-inflammatory skin hyperpigmentation.
15 % – Other aggravating factors include certain cosmetic products and a wide range of systemic photosensitive drugs.
Pigmented lesions are relatively easy to treat with laser pigmentation removal treatment, with the exception of Melasma.
Melasma is a systemic disease and, therefore, requires various treatment options over a more extended period.
There are 3 types of Melasma: epidermal, dermal and mixed-type of Melasma.
Laser pigmentation removal can help with epidermal Melasma.
In our clinic, we offer other treatments for skin hyperpigmentation, such as the leading ones on the market, the Cosmelan Depigmentation Peel and the Obagi-Nu Derm medical system.

Laser Pigmentation Removal, how does it work?
Laser light of a certain wavelength of high intensity is used to treat pigmented lesions.
This method is called Selective Photothermolysis. According to this theory, the targeted chromophores (in this case, the melanocytes in the pigmented lesions) absorb the laser light of a specific wavelength, which leads to its destruction or discolouration. Light energy turns into thermal energy (photothermolysis), destroying the pigment, but not injuring the surrounding tissue.
How Much Does Laser Pigmentation Removal Cost?
At Prima Britannia Laser Clinic, laser skin pigmentation removal prices are competitive and affordable, although we only use medical grade laser systems.
