Excessive sweating

What is Excessive sweating or Hyperhidrosis Condition?

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition of excessive sweating produced by the sweat glands, much more than needed to regulate body temperature. It is a relatively common disease that causes significant discomfort in daily life and affects both men and women.

Hyperhidrosis can significantly affect a person’s quality of life, leading to social discomfort, emotional distress, and embarrassment. Daily activities such as shaking hands, writing, or using electronic devices can be challenging for people who sweat excessively.

Hyperhidrosis can occur in various body parts, such as:

  • the palms of the hands
  • soles of the feet
  • underarms
  • sometimes the face
  • other areas.

What can cause the condition of Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis can be classified into two main types:

Primary Hyperhidrosis and Secondary Hyperhidrosis.

Primary Hyperhidrosis:  Has no known medical cause. This type of Hyperhidrosis usually begins in childhood or adolescence and can affect both men and women. Sweating can occur at any time, even when the body is at rest and can be caused by emotional stress or anxiety.

Secondary Hyperhidrosis: Secondary Hyperhidrosis is caused by an underlying medical condition or a side effect of medications—conditions such as diabetes, thyroid problems, menopause, and some infections. Certain medications, such as antidepressants, antipsychotics, and blood pressure medications, can also cause excessive sweating.
