Electrolysis Hair removal

Electrolysis hair removal is still recognised as the ONLY method of PERMANENT hair removal

Unwanted hair is an extremely common problem. It appears in frustrating places all over our bodies, so that we seem to be in a constant battle to remove it! Some hair is present from birth, but other hair seems to spring up at different points in our lives, on areas such as the chin and upper lip.

Our skin has ability to produce new hair follicles during our life time. It is completely normal physiological process except excessive hair growth on some part of body. It can appear due to hormonal changes, certain medicines or stress, or at times when our bodies are undergoing huge changes such as puberty, pregnancy or the menopause. Body hair can also differ greatly from person to person, as each individuals is unique.

Electrolysis, or ‘Electro-epilation’, is the only way to achieve permanent hair removal. It uses an electric current on each individual hair to permanently destroy the growth centre of the hair, preventing it from ever growing back.

Electrolysis hair removal is commonly used on the following areas:

  • Upper lip
  • Chin
  • Neck
  • Sides of face
  • Hairline
  • Eyebrows
  • Cheeks
  • Nose
  • Underarm – (This area can be treated but will require a longer time due to the fact that we treat each individual hair)

It also has a wide range of benefits as opposed to other forms of hair removal:

  • It is permanent. Once the dermal papilla has been destroyed it will never grow back!
  • It can be used effectively on all skin colours.
  • It can be used to effectively treat any colour hair including grey and blonde.
  • It is inexpensive.
  • It will save you time. All the time you spend on regular hair removal will now be free!

hair-growth-cycle2
A tiny probe about the size of a single hair is inserted into the hair follicle. A hair follicle is a pore in the skin that extends down through the epidermis and the dermis. Each follicle usually contains one hair and the depth of the hair is determined by the stage of the hair growth cycle. Only in Anagen, active growing stage, hair can be removed permanently. As our Hair are in different stage of Hair growth cycle it is require a course of several treatments which numbers are different from person to person.

During electrolysis, an electric current is passed through the probe and the heat or chemical reaction from the current destroys the root of the hair and the growth centre of the follicle. This prevents the hair from growing back.

Is the treatment safe?

Yes. The treatment is completely safe. Electrolysis technology has been used for hundred years and all our treatments are carried out by experienced professionals. At out clinic we used only CE Certified equipment and machinery.

Does the treatment hurt?

Electrolysis does cause a small amount of discomfort. However, if the skin is particularly sensitive we will apply a topical anaesthetic to reduce any pain.

What type of electrical current is used?

There are two types of current used with Electrolysis. There are two types of currents: either AC or DC currents are used. AC (alternating current) uses heat to destroy the lower part of the follicle. DC (direct current) causes a chemical reaction in the follicle which destroys the papilla. This method requires the client to hold a small metal electrode. AC is also known as Thermolysis, Short Wave, Diathermy, or flash. DC is also known as Galvanic. These two currents can also be used simultaneously, and is then known as Blend method.

Electrolysis hair removal, which method is best?

There are pros and cons to both methods. Your Electrologist will select the modality (type of current) that is most appropriate for your condition and skin / hair type. Both modalities will lead to permanent hair removal. For a darker skin type usually used ONLY Galvanic current to avoid skin damage.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments will depend on the size of the area being treated. It is a slower process that laser hair removal as it treats each hair individually. Each hair also requires 2-3 treatments to be completely destroyed. It is important to treat hair during the Active growing stage of Hair Growth cycle.

How often should I have the treatments?

Regular appointments are vital in the early stages to ensure excellent results. We suggest once or twice a week at the beginning of the course and then every 3 to 4 weeks up to desirable result.

Are there any side effects?

There may be some reddening on the area immediately after the treatment but this will fade within a few hours.

Can I have electrolysis if I am pregnant?

It is not recommended to have electrolysis treatment especially in the first trimester of pregnancy. We recommend waiting when you stop the breast feeding as hormonal changes during pregnancy may cause hairs to grow back despite of the treatment. During this sensitive period we would recommend to use less invasive treatments to avoid any infection or over stimulation. Waxing or threading treatment can be used in the reputable salon or clinic in the HYGIENE environment. Professional aftercare is very important.

How should I treat my skin after the treatment?

If you wish to shave or clip the hair in the treated area before attend the next treatment then you may do so. However, we ask that you don’t wax, tweeze or use any other method that pulls hair out. This is because the electrolysis is systematically reducing blood supply to the hair. When you wax, your skin acts as though it has been injured and blood rushed to the area to heal it. This makes the hair stronger and counteracts the work being done by the electrolysis treatment.
